How do I know my pet is aging?

The sad truth is that pets age faster than humans. Dogs are generally considered seniors from around 7 years old, and cats enter their senior years from 11 years old. As your pet grows older, their ability to enjoy the simple pleasures in life might change. It might be more difficult for them to do the things they once enjoyed. Some signs your pet might be aging include:

  • Arthritis
  • Graying and loss of hair
  • Hearing and vision loss
  • Reduced mobility (stiffness or limping)
  • Fatigue and reluctance to exercise
  • Changes in weight
  • Foul or shortness of breath

What illnesses might affect my senior pet?

Senior pets are more prone to certain diseases as they age. This may require them to seek medical attention more often to manage their symptoms and pain. We recommend bringing in your senior pet twice a year for routine checkups. Common illnesses we would work to prevent and manage include:

  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Kidney, heart, or liver disease
